The Magnets: Six man sound machine returns to South Australia
A cappella stars The Magnets are returning to Adelaide with their new show Gobsmacked! for the 2012 Fringe from 17 – 29 February nightly at 7.00pm at the ‘Vagabond’, in The Garden of Unearthly Delights. The Magnets are fast becoming a must see act on the international music scene, with a reputation built on three consecutive sell-out years at the Edinburgh Fringe and incendiary festival appearances across the globe. With their fourth studio album about to be released The Magnets are the vocal group with a word-of-mouth reputation for spicing up the parties of supermodels, heads of state and billionaires with their blend of razor-sharp harmonies and jaw dropping beat-boxing.

Literally a ‘six-man sound machine’, The Magnets make all their music with their mouths alone, including the drums of vocal percussionist/beat-boxer Andy Frost and the richly textured bass of Fraser Collins. However, this is no attempt to mimic instruments, but rather the blending of six distinctive voices to create a unique sound that rivals any band with guitars and keyboards. Packed with musical sophistication, vocal stunts, cool moves, engaging humour and plenty of audience participation, Gobsmacked! has the wow factor of a Stomp-style sensation and the dynamics of a great rock concert, all without an instrument in sight.
At the root of The Magnets success lays a talent for radically restyling much loved songs, from classics by Blondie, Blur and the Jackson 5, to current hits such as Rolling in the Deep by Adele. Highlights include a bossa-nova Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, the audience’s choice the band’s trademark A-Z medleys (will it be bands or movies?), and beat-boxer Andy Frost’s show stopping mouth drumming solo. Now at the forefront of the current vogue for vocal harmony music, seen everywhere from Glee to The Sing Off, The Magnets have paid their dues through early days as street performers in London’s Covent Garden and ten years of international touring. This is their second trip to Australia after a successful run at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June 2011.
